Observation 4

1. Preliminary Thesis
Based on a countries religion, historical background, and political relation to the US, their media on 9/11 will differ.

2. Sources
There are going to be many different sources I can utilize to find information. First, using actual hard copies of newpapers or newspaper’s websites to find articles covering the event, or tv news media to find reports of coverage that day. Next, I can look through criticisms of those reports. Lastly, I can find previous research, journals, and database research on the topic.

3. Difficulties
Some possible difficulties I might encounter are problems with languages and this event happening a few years in the past. First, if I want to compare reports and opinions of different countries and many will not speak English. The two problems with this are that I might not be able to find that country’s reports in English; there might not be a translation. Second, if for instance, China has a Chinese news report and an English one, the English one might be intended for a different audience, therefore be biased.
My second problem might be that it is now 2009, and 9/11 happened in 2001. It may be difficult digging up 8 year old reports. I’m guessing that I’m going to have to sift through articles written in 2004 or 2005 recalling the events, even though I’m looking for articles directly after the event.

Difficulties:
For your first problem, you are going to need to try and find media reports in English or have English subtitles. Also, you can try and find someone that speaks that language and have them translate it.

For your second problem, you are going to have to do a good amount of research. However, it does help that 9/11 was such a major event so there will be a good bit of information.

Observation 4

1.) I am researching the importance of college websites. I want to research the various aspects of the websites such as picture, format, and overall presentation. During the course of high school when students are looking at different colleges, many high schoolers look at the college's website for information and other aspects of the college. I think that the websites are a must of all colleges.

2.)I am going to interview some students to see if their ideas are similar to my own or if their ideas are similar to other students that I am going to interview. These interviews will allow me to use quotes and information that students give me about their own ideas about the websites.

3.) Some students may lie about what they think about the websites. Also, some information that I get about websites could be incorrect.

Observation 4

1. I plan to do my research paper on the pro's and con's of vegetarianism. I plan to research the different benefits of being a vegetarian and also the bad things about vegetarianism. When people think of vegetarians, they usually think of very healthy and in-shape people, however there are also some vegetarians that are not healthy because of their lack of nutrients. There are also different types of vegetarians and I plan to research all of them.

2. For my research I plan to look at different websites such as PETA and animal outreach. I also plan to look up statistics and facts about the health and nutrient intake of vegetarians and how eating meat ensures that you get all of the nutrients, but nutrients are also availabe through vitamins and other supplements. I also plan to research the reasons people choose to be vegetarians by look through blogs and other websites.

3. I could encounter obstacles such as some of the statistics or "facts" that websites have not being correct or also not being able to find enough information to argue each side of the research topic.

Observation 4

1. I am going to do my research paper on the way celebrities in the media affects the public’s body image. In today’s world, young girls look up to celebrities as role models and strive emulate their favorite celebrities appearances. (To Be continued)

2. I plan on using web sites, news reports, TV shows (such as Doctor Phil, The Tyra Banks Show, and other entertainment shows), and research articles (such as magazine articles, books and journals). I could even conduct a survey or search for a survey and analyze it.

3. I think it could be difficult to find a lot of material on the topic. But I think my largest obstacle is myself because I always have a tough time organizing my papers. To avoid this I intend to fully map out my paper by creating a specific outline before I begin my writing process.

Observation 4

For my research topic, I have decided to look into animal toxicology and experimentation in relation to the campaign against experimentation on animals. I think that the most important aspects of my paper will be discussing the different groups against animal testing, such as PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals), and the effects of experimentation on the animals themselves. I believe that I will be including the arguments of those who are pro-animal testing and the multiple scientists and organizations that see no problem with experimentation on animals in order to provide the view from both sides of the argument. However, this will be strictly for informative purposes and I remain against animal experimentation.

I plan to use a variety of sources for my research information. There are many websites that deal with animal testing, both for and against it. For example, I will be researching PETA since they are a huge protestor against animal experimentation and have a few different organizations within PETA that I can find information on. Also, I will be looking for journal articles that discuss this topic, whether online or in the library.

I hope that I will not face many obstacles during this project, but I feel that it may be harder to find information on pro-animal testing and the positive effects of animal experimentation, rather than anti-testing which is a much larger campaign.

Observation 4

Preliminary thesis & ideas

For the research paper, I have decided that the ethicality animal experimentation should be my topic as I have done some previous research on the subject. Since I believe that animal experimentation and animal toxicology (the testing of chemicals and how they affect living systems) is unethical, I have decided to focus my paper on the campaign against animal experimentation. This includes, but its not limited to many organizations such as PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals) and www.stopanimaltests.com (an smaller organization within PETA). I also believe I will give all perspectives of animal experimentation and use organizations that experiment with animals to make my argument stronger. One last focus, will be the government laws and acts passed to decrease animal testing. Animal experimentation is ethically wrong seen through government laws and acts, organizations against animal testing, and the records of animal experiments.

Research & sources

I intend to use the records of animal experiments from sources such as the NTP, or National Toxicology Program to show the harms and facts in testing. I also intend to use the PETA website and www.stopanimaltests.com as strong campaigns against animal experimentation. Many news articles also discuss the dangers in animal testing such as those from www.foxnews.com. News articles also discuss the laws and acts passed to reduce experimentation. Lastly, I plan to use the library database for journal articles discussing animal experimentation.

Obstacles

I do not see many obstacles in this project. I believe that my research will be thorough and not too hard. 

Observation 4

There are many recruitment tactics for the United States Navy. For my paper, I am going to compare the recruitment tactics used today to the tactics that were used about a century ago and how effect those tactics were.

The sources that I will be using in this research paper are the media, newspapers, databases, informational websites, and interviews. With media, I will be analyzing different posters that are issued by the Navy over the past century. I will also be analyzing different television ads, movies, and photos that are pro-Navy. With the source of the internet, I will show how websites now a days can be used to give information to people that are looking at facts about the Navy and what opportunities are available. The internet can also give me published personal accounts of people that have joined the Navy and what they are doing with the skills they have learned. Databases can give me the names of various journals, books, and articles that will give me research that has been previously done on the topic.

The difficulties that I am facing with writing this research paper is that I do not think I can find as many database sources as I would need.
